Based on the histories, official and unofficial, of the men & women who actually manned the lighthouses, "Showing a Light", tells the story of these beacons using the character of a keeper who lived and worked on a station. Using official records, documents of the United states Lighthouse Service, the United States Coast Guard and reminiscences of family members of keepers - for the last six years audiences at museums, historic sites and other places have enjoyed a chance to "visit" with a lighthouse keeper. They learn that the life that looks so calm and peaceful on a summer evening was very different in an offshore light in the middle of winter; that existence on a light station was often brutally hard, numbingly repetitive and unforgiving! But they also hear of the families raised, the good times spent and the small, but significant rewards of life on duty "Showing a Light".

His stories serve to help us revisit those days when all of the nation's lights were lit and the lifeblood of a nation flowed past them on the waters of the United States, guided by the beacons that were always "Showing a Light".
